Issue/Introduction

Regarding the ENF/CICS HIPER LU15015 that was published on 10/31/2024. Are there any symptoms that indicate this issue might be causing you problems?

You are working on upgrading from CICS 5.6 to 6.1. Is there more exposure on CICS 6.1?

Environment

Common Services 15.0 with CAIENF/CICS

CICS/TS 5.5, 5.6, and 6.1.

Resolution

As the PTF states, the problem stems from a storage leak.

  • The adverse effects of the storage leak occurs when there is a heavy workload of multiple concurrent transactions on an Open TCB environment.
  • Without this fix on, you may see allocated yet unused storage in SP251 Key 8, which is CICS EDSA storage.
  • One can monitor their CICS EDSA storage and see if there is a large amount of allocated yet unused storage.
  • CICS regions may be brought down due to the shortage on storage conditions that stem from the storage leak.
  • There is no greater exposure with CICS/TS 6.1 compared to 5.5 or 5.6
Note that most sites will not experience the adverse effects of these storage leaks due to the conditions required to trigger them. A high rate of transactions running on an OTCB is not the norm. However, it is advised to put this PTF on as it has caused regions to be brought down in a customer site. The potential of this situation has existed since the base level and was not introduced by any published maintenance.
