Issue/Introduction

When observing the Resource Pool Capacity and Usage in vSphere client, CPU or memory usage may show lower than expected, or have a zero value.

Environment

  • vCenter Server 7.x
  • vCenter Server 8.x.

Cause

Resource pool usage will show resource reservations only. If no reservations are set on a VM in a resource pool, the current CPU and memory usage will not be displayed at the resource pool UI.

Resolution

You can see current resources utilization in Monitor/Utilization tab.

Set CPU reservations on VMs on a needed basis when grouped under child resource pools.

Additional Information

For more information on resource pool usage and charts, visit the vSphere Monitoring Performance page.
