MICS Resource Management

Issue/Introduction

There is a planned change regarding the CEC naming convention to reflect the IBM model generation. For instance, CEC1 will be renamed to CEC1Z16.
Is there anything that should be addressed in MICS that utilizes the CEC name that should be considered for this change?

Resolution

Regarding your planned CEC name change, we do construct the CPCID, which is essentially a unique identifier for each CEC at a customer site (could be considered a "CEC name").
It is constructed from the model type, model number, and serial number, like:

    8561-606-SERIAL: 32AF8 ---  z15
    3931-609-SERIAL: 7C198 ---  z16

MICS does not pick up a chosen "CEC name" and store it in the MICS database, so a change of name will have no impact on MICS.
In addition, it should not impact CPCID because the fields involved are independent of a "CEC name".
