DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

In Operator Console, I normally see groups for Windows and UNIX and other operating systems listed under "Operating Systems" but these groups are missing and the number of members shows as zero (0):

How do I bring these groups back?

Environment

DX UIM - Any Version

Cause

Configuration - these groups are automatically enabled and created with a fresh installation of Operator Console, but if they have disappeared, it usually means that the configuration has been changed.

Resolution

To re-enable the groups, follow the below steps depending on which version of DX UIM/Operator Console you are running.

For DX UIM 20.4 and Prior:  The setting is located in Operator Console under the Settings->Configure menu.

For DX UIM 23.4+: The setting is located in Operator Console under Inventory Management->App Discovery.

In all releases, once you access the appropriate page, you will be presented with a list of potential Automatic Groups:

To re-enable the Operating Systems automatic groups, check the first/topmost checkbox for "OS Type" and type in "Operating Systems" and then click Save.

This will re-enable the groups.

Additional Information

Note: If you have configured MCS Profiles and Alarm Policies against these automatic groups, they will have been deleted, which can result in the deletion of the configured profiles on the robots, resulting in the loss of monitoring (both metrics and alarms).

Any such profiles will need to be re-created from scratch.

Since these groups can be easily disabled with a single checkbox, Broadcom does not recommend configuring MCS Profiles or Alarm Policies against these automatic groups. Instead, create your own groups that filter against OS Type and use those groups for MCS Profile deployment.
