Discrepancy in VMware Aria Operations alerting

Issue/Introduction

Two different Aria Operations clusters monitoring the same vCenter.

Aria Operations Cluster 1 received the alert, however, Aria Operations Cluster 2 did not receive the same alert.
In the vCenter, it is possible to see that there is an event triggered for the alert received in Aria Operations Cluster 1.

Cause

Each Aria Operations cluster will be in a different collection cycle. There is no guarantee that each Aria Operations cluster will complete the collection cycle at the same time.
If the alert was automatically cancelled and the "cancelled on" timestamp is less or equal to 5 minutes approximately, the following behaviour will follow:

• Aria Operations Cluster 1 completes the collection cycle earlier than Aria Operations Cluster 2. Thus, the alert will only be triggered in the Aria Operations Cluster 1.
• As the alert triggered in Aria Operations Cluster 1 has been already auto-cancelled in less or equal to 5 minutes when Aria Operations Cluster 2 starts the collection cycle, the issue has been already resolved (auto-cancelled). Thus, the alert will NOT be triggered in the Aria Operations Cluster 2.

 

Resolution

This behaviour is expected as per design.
