After upgrading to version 5.2.3.4, some users may experience issues with network interfaces failing to come online when auto-negotiation is disabled. This issue is particularly noted with certain Edge (6X0) that have auto-negotiation turned off, as the new Ethernet port settings in 5.2.3.4 force auto-negotiation to remain enabled. This behavior change was introduced in version 5.2.3.4 and is tracked under issue ID 151654. A hotfix has been released to revert this change and restore expected functionality.
Velocloud Edge 5.2.3.4
The problem arises from a deliberate change made in version 5.2.3.4, where the Ethernet port settings always keep auto-negotiation enabled, even if the VeloCloud Orchestrator (VCO) requests it to be disabled. This can prevent the link from coming up on switch ports that require auto-negotiation to be disabled.
This change was implemented to address challenges with 720 and 740 platforms, specifically to prevent issues with fixed link modes (such as "1000 fixed" or "2500 fixed") that require auto-negotiation to be enabled.
The development team has acknowledged the issue and provided a hotfix for version 5.2.3.4. The changes introduced in version 5.2.3.4 (R5234-20240826-GA-cf74deab77) have been reverted in the hotfix release R5234-20241004-GA-151654-d67c187bca. This hotfix restores the behavior where auto-negotiation settings from the VCO are respected, allowing interfaces with auto-negotiation disabled to function properly.
