Issue/Introduction

  • NSX Segment is showing under the vCenter Network Inventory.
  • Deleted NSX networks are still present in the Networking tab in the vCenter.

  • In vCenter, a Virtual Machine is shown as bound to the Logical Switch.

Environment

VMware vCenter - 7.x, 8.x

Cause

After removing the NSX segment from the NSX UI as part of troubleshooting (see: " Stale networks (NSX segments) are observed in the vCenter"), we were left with a single stale logical switch that couldn't be removed from vCenter. This issue is due to old snapshots that were taken on the VM(s).

Resolution

1. Locate "nsx.LogicalSwitch" in the Networking Pane in the vCenter UI.
2. Go to VMs on the right and click on the VM in the list.
3. Login to the ESXi as SSH and cd into Virtual Machine file location. Confirm VM running on snapshots by reviewing the vmx file.
4. Consolidate the snapshots on the VM via vCenter.
5. Stale entry should now be cleared in the vCenter.
