Issue/Introduction

  • NSX Segment is showing under the vCenter Network Inventory.
  • Deleted NSX networks are still present in the Networking tab in the vCenter.

  • In vCenter, a Virtual Machine is bound to the Logical Switch.

Environment

VMware vCenter - 7.x, 8.x

Cause

  • After removing the NSX segment from the NSX UI as part of troubleshooting in the KB " Stale networks (NSX segments) are observed in the vCenter", vCenter still shows the entry of the deleted logical switch.
  • This issue is due to old snapshots present on the VMs that still has reference of the deleted logical switch segment.

Resolution

1. Locate "nsx.LogicalSwitch" in the Networking Pane in the vCenter UI.

    • Login to the vCenter UI as administrator
    • Click on the Networking Tab
    • Navigate through the list to find the stale nsx.LogicalSwitch entry.
    • On the right side navigation pane, click on the VMs tab.
    • For each specific VM listed, check if any of the VMs have a snapshot by clicking on the VM --> Snapshot Manager Tab

2. Alternatively, Right click on the VM --> Edit Settings --> Expand the Hardware Disk --> Verify if the VM is running on any file named VM-name-000001.vmdk
3. Consolidate the snapshots on the VM via vCenter.
4. Stale entry should now be cleared in the vCenter.
