Resolution

Following steps is to ensure Virtual machine in question appears as VM with reclaimable snapshot as the reclamation settings has higher priority wherein if the Virtual Machine is powered off or idle, it will not be available under "snapshot" tab. Hence, following listed metrics and properties must be verified.

  • Validate below Metrics(should be present and has data).
    Summary|Oversized|Reclaimable Snapshot Space
    Disk Space:<datastore>|Snapshot:<snapshot_id>|Access Time
    Disk Space:<datastore>|Snapshot:<snapshot_id>|Virtual Machine used

  • Check Metrics Properties|Disk Space|Snapshot|Age (Days) to confirm the age of snapshot is greater than specified value in Reclamation Settings.
  • Virtual machine should be available under the "Snapshots" tab in the Reclaim page.
  • If not available:
        1. Confirm if Virtual Machine is powered on from Metrics "System|Powered On".
        2. If not, confirm Virtual machine is listed under Powered Off VMs and Idle VMs tab under Reclaim option.
In the case of Powered off and Idle Virtual machines, make sure Powered Off VMs and Idle VMs option is unchecked under Reclamation Settings.
