Issue/Introduction

  • HCX migration fails with the error: "Permission to perform this operation was denied."
  • HCX manager display the error: "Failed to disable replication on source VM":

  • On HCX Manager CLI, the following error is observed in /common/logs/admin/app.log

Environment

Cause

The user account used to register the HCX manager with vCenter does not have sufficient privileges to perform migration tasks on the HCX.

Resolution

  • Login to the HCX Management Interface as user admin via https://<HCX-Manager-ip-or-FQDN>:9443, and verify vCenter connection status shows online under Dashboard Tab.

  • The user account used for HCX registration to the vCenter can be viewed in HCX Management Interface https://<HCX-Manager-ip-or-FQDN>:9443, login as user admin, Goto --> Configuration Tab  --> vCenter Server 

 

The user account found above should have the privileges in the vCenter server described in the documentation here
