Issue/Introduction

While upgrading 2E, what are the expected timings one may expect while performing a given upgrade, to allow one to plan accordingly

Resolution

When going across major releases, ie: 8.5 -> 8.7, there will be a product upgrade phase, then a model upgrade phase.  Product will not be usable once product upgrade starts, until upgrade finishes.  The product upgrade is a multi-step process and may take a few hours to complete.   

A cumulative patch update, such as from 8.7 -> 8.7.3 is purely a model upgrade; there would not be a product upgrade element.  There will be a process applied for each individual model for the upgrade activity.  A single model takes about 5-10 min to upgrade, up to 30 min for larger models.  Any single model upgrade taking over an hour is a concern.  

Additional Information

We recommend doing a model upgrade on the copy or backup level first to familiarise yourself with the activity.

During the model upgrades, the models will not be accessible by anyone until the upgrade completes.  Once a given model is upgraded successfully, the model is available for use.
