Environment

Cloud Director 10.3.3.4

Cause

  • Before removing a T1 connection from VCD, there are a number of prerequisites that must be checked.

Resolution

Prerequisites for Removing an NSX-T Tier-1 Connection in VMware Cloud Director 10.3

Before removing an NSX-T Tier-1 (T1) connection from a tenant in VMware Cloud Director 10.3, ensure the following prerequisites are met:

1. Confirm Admin or Tenant Admin Permissions

  • Verify you have the necessary admin or tenant admin rights in VCD and NSX-T to modify or remove network configurations.

2. Ensure No Active Workloads Are Using the T1 Gateway

  • Confirm that no VMs or services are using the Tier-1 gateway.
  • Check for active workloads connected to any networks associated with the T1 router.
  • Ensure that no VMs are connected to any networks linked to the T1.

3. Verify No Dependent Edge Services

  • Confirm there are no edge services (e.g., NAT, load balancing, or firewall rules) configured on the T1 router.
  • Ensure services like DHCP or VPN associated with the T1 router are decommissioned.

4. Disconnect Tenant Networks

  • Ensure all Org VDC networks connected to the T1 router have been disconnected or removed.
  • Validate network disconnection through the Networking tab in the tenant's organization in VCD.

5. Remove Static and Dynamic Routes

  • Confirm there are no static or dynamic routes configured on the T1 router.
  • Disable any dynamic routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF) associated with the T1 before proceeding.

6. Remove Distributed Firewall Rules

  • Verify that distributed firewall (DFW) rules associated with the T1 router are removed or updated as needed.

7. Backup Configuration

  • Take a snapshot of the NSX-T Manager and VCD appliances to ensure you can restore if needed.

8. Review Multi-Site Configurations

If your deployment is part of a multi-site setup, confirm that the T1 gateway removal will not affect other sites.

9. Remove the T1 connection from VCD.
