Issue/Introduction

When installing Information Centric Analytics (ICA), must its Database Utilities be installed on the SQL Server host? What does this install on the SQL Server? Is there a risk of harming other databases if the ICA database is on a shared server?

Resolution

ICA's database utilities should be installed on the SQL Server host. You can install the utilities on the application server if policies prohibit their installation on the SQL Server host, but this isn't ideal.

The database utilities contain data import utilities and executables that are called and executed to perform tasks as part of ICA's processing jobs. At no point are modifications made to the SQL Server engine or service instance and there are no changes made to any other databases hosted on the SQL Server host.

NOTE: ICA's processing jobs are highly resource intensive and Broadcom recommends deploying ICA on its own hardware to minimize resource conflicts. If that is not feasible, ensure that ICA's processing jobs do not run concurrently with any other jobs or maintenance tasks (e.g., backups).
