Issue/Introduction

When creating a cell Site group and trying to add a host to that cell site group, you might run into an issue where you will get an error message like this:

Code: ZTP100602
Message:

Failed to add the host to vds: test.local and the exception is:

If you download the error message and look at it, it will state this:

message = 'Host abc-core.xyz.net is not compatible with the VDS version 8.0.3'

Environment

2.x,3.x

Resolution

The error message appears because the Distributed Virtual Switch (DVS) is version 8.0.3, while the ESXi host you're trying to add is incompatible due to running an older ESXi version.

In order to fix the issue, the ESXi hosts needs to be upgrade to the same version level as vCenter version

Upgrade ESXi:

vCenter 8.0 U3 introduces a new DVS version (8.0.3), which offers enhanced features. To utilize this DVS, your ESXi host must be upgraded to a version compatible with the vCenter. Ensure the ESXi host matches the same version level as vCenter to successfully add it to the DVS.

Work Arounds:

The work around would be to create a lower version of DVS

Create a lower version of DVS:

If upgrading the ESXi host is not feasible, you can create a DVS with a lower version in vCenter. This allows you to manually configure the DVS to match the older ESXi version. After creating the DVS and configuring the required uplinks, you can add the ESXi host to the appropriate cell site group based on network requirements.
Note: When creating the cell site group, only the DVS creation needs to be done manually along with the uplinks. The DVS name and the uplink names, needs to match the manually created DVS under switch configuration of the cell site group. Once the first host is added to the cell site group, the Telco Cloud Automation (TCA) will automatically handle the port group creation.
