Issue/Introduction

VC recent task gets a continuous task as "Update service activation policy" and "start service" after host and vSphere replication appliance upgrade.

- Update service activation policy esx.vsphere.local  initiated by [email protected]

- Start service esx.vsphere.local initiated by [email protected]

Environment

vCenter.  - 8.0.2 or later
ESXi hosts. - ESXi, 8.0.2 or later
VR version 9.0.2
and VLR 9.0.2

Cause

 - This issue occurs when enhance based replication is enabled on effected host. After enabling enhance based replication, HMS service on vSphere replication validates host's hbrsrv service status.

- hbrsrv service on should be in start state.

Resolution

Plan of action:
--> Verify that hbrsrv is running on ESXi host.

--> If it is in stopped state, please start the service.

--> Workaround if alerts don't stop after starting hbrsrv service

--> Take snapshot of replication appliance, stop and start the hms service in vSphere replication appliance. Host's hbrsrv service will be started automatically after HMS service restart. "start service" and "update service on activation policy" task should stop. Please refer to below screenshot.
