Issue/Introduction

  • When configuring a replication in VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA) of a newly provisioned VM, the task fails and you see an error similar to:

Processing <vm-name> Error: The organization VDC "<vdc-name>" does not support the virtual hardware version ## of the VM "<vm-name>" in the vApp.

  • This issue occurs when you are replicating to a VMware Cloud Director (VCD) site.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.x
  • VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the Virtual Hardware Version of the VM you are attempting to replicate is higher than what is supported in the destination VMware Cloud Director Organization VDC.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, the ESXi hosts in the destination site need to be on a version that supports the Virtual Hardware Version of the VM you are attempting to replicate and the destination Organization VDC needs to also support this Virtual Hardware Version.

To increase the highest Virtual Hardware Version an Organization VDC supports, see Edit the General Settings of a Provider Virtual Data Center in Your VMware Cloud Director.

Additional Information

For more information on what Virtual Hardware Versions map to which ESXi version, see Virtual machine hardware versions.
