Issue/Introduction

  • VPXD service crashes when using the HCX solution on vCenter Server 6.7
  • The vpxd service create a core dump.
  • HCX version 4.9 and above
  • This issue does not affect vCenter 7.0 or vCenter 8.0.
  • The following events are observed in  /var/log/vMonCoredumper.log

    2024-09-04T01:03:05.270Z| host-17333| I125: Successfully generated core file /var/core/core.vpxd-worker.13071.
    2024-09-04T01:04:06.392Z| host-22808| I125: Successfully generated core file /var/core/core.vpxd-worker.17832.
    2024-09-05T01:05:17.874Z| host-35331| I125: Successfully generated core file /var/core/core.vpxd-worker.8297.
    2024-09-06T01:07:21.879Z| host-6062| I125: Successfully generated core file /var/core/core.vpxd-worker.54865.

Environment

vCenter 6.7,HCX 4.x

Cause

HCX is sending malformed event to vCenter which is resulting in the vpxd crash 

 

Resolution

This issue is fixed on vCenter 7.x and above
