Issue/Introduction

  • When listing the Named Disks in an Organization VDC in the Cloud Director Tenant portal only some Named Disks are listed
  • Many named disks are not returned by the UI or API.
  • Named Disks which have previously been used are no longer visible in Cloud Director.
  • Named Disks attached to VMs are not present in the Cloud Director UI or API.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x

Cause

This issue can occur when the Storage Policy assigned to particular Named Disks is removed from Cloud Director.

This in turn leads to Cloud Director being unable to display storage information for the Disks, preventing the UI or API from loading the information.

Resolution

  1. Re-add the Storage Policy to Cloud Director
    1. Cloud Director matches on name, so if the Policy needs to be recreated, as long as the name matches Cloud Director should pick it up.
  2. Add the policy to the Provider VDC and Organization VDCs for which the Named Disks are mapped.
  3. The next steps require Database Manipulation.
    1. Take a backup of the Cloud Director Database.
    2. Open a case with Broadcom Support for assistance.
