Issue/Introduction

When attempting to add a license through NSX UI (System > Licenses > Add License), you may encounter the below error if you enter an add-on license without the necessary base SKU.
"Invalid key ended with xxxx ,Error code 3020 "

Environment

VMware NSX 4.2

Cause

You will get an error message if you  enter an add-on license without the required base SKU.
You must have a base license and then you can add an Add-on license on top of the base license.

To successfully add an add-on license, ensure that you have already activated the required base license.
Once the base license is in place, you can proceed to add the add-on license.

Resolution

To add an add-on license with the required base SKU in VMware NSX, follow these steps:

  • Log in to NSX Manager with admin privileges.
  • Navigate to System > Licenses. Click on Add License.
  • Enter the license key. with the required base SKU.
  • Assign the license to the appropriate NSX Manager.

Ensure that the base SKU is correctly entered before adding the add-on license. This process ensures that all necessary features are enabled and properly licensed.
