Issue/Introduction
While Upgrading NSX-T, the Pre-checks reports the following warning with respect to the Edge Nodes as seen on the GUI :
The current order of edge nodes in group xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx is not optimal for Tier0 down time. Kindly reset plan for system to recalculate the order
Environment
VMware NSX v3.x, v4.x
Cause
This issue occurs when the default Edge Grouping is changed, then the Edge Pre-checks are run again.
Due to the grouping change, the Edge node with the active logical router(s) becomes the first to be upgraded, this will entail a failover to the standby and again when the standby is upgraded, this leads to an extra failover during the upgrade.
The default grouping, will ensure the standby is upgraded first, then a failover will occur and the active will be upgraded, thus only incurring one failover event.
Resolution
To resolve the above, there is an option called "Reset to Default" as seen in the below via the GUI :
While clicking the above Option, the Edges in the Upgrade Groups are arranged in such a manner that the Edge Nodes hosting the Standby LRs get first in the list to be Upgraded.
Post hitting the above Option, perform the Pre-checks again and the warning should have disappeared.
