Issue/Introduction

This article aims to provide the outline of DR plan for VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle (vASL) set up.

Environment

VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.x.

Resolution

DR and RE-IP of vASL

Note: vASL needs to be the last product to be powered off on the source site prior failover and the first Product to be powered on in the destination site due to dependency of the products to be managed.

Failover of vASL:

    1. Recover vASL VM.
    2. Update the DNS mappings for New IP to the existing Hostname.
      • From the existing name server mapping we need to remove the old IP and add the new IP against the existing product hostname.
    3. Update the vami_config_net with IP, gateway, DNS, and netmask
      Using the command:
      • /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_config_net
      • /etc/systemd/network/10-eth0.network
    4. Reboot the VM.
    5. Validate the vASL UI and SSH.
    6. Add the protection site VC to the vASL.
    7. Post Failover of the products managed by vASL, Run Inventory Sync for the products in vASL to update the new IP address in the vASL inventory.
      • If a failure occurs at the snapshot update task skip the task in the request and proceed.
      • Trigger Inventory Sync again to make sure there are no failures.
    8. Run Inventory Sync again to check the flow is successful.

Failback of vASL:

      1. Re-protect (SRM action) or reverse the direction of failover and Run the disaster recovery of the vASL instance using SRM or DR tool of your choice.
      2. Check if all the changes are reverted back to the original. if not, follow the below steps and update the configurations.
      3. Update the DNS mappings in DNS servers for Original IP's to existing Hostnames.
        • Remove the new IP to Hostname Mappings and add the old IP against the mapping.
      4. Update the vami_config_net with IP, gateway, DNS, and netmask
        Using the command:
        • /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_config_net
        • /etc/systemd/network/10-eth0.network

      5. Reboot the VM.
      6. Validate the vASL UI and SSH.
      7. Add the protection site VC to the vASL.
      9. Run Inventory Sync again to check the flow is successful.
