Issue/Introduction

• Commissioning of the hosts fails during validation with the error 'A problem has occurred on the server. Please retry or contact the service provider and provide the reference token'.

Environment

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 5.x
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x
• VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
• ESX 9.x

Cause

The SDDC Manager identifies compatibility by cross-referencing the ESXi host build version against the VCF BOM. The commissioning process enforces strict version control to ensure the integrity and interoperability of the environment. Mismatches detected during validation trigger a task failure, requiring the host build to be aligned with the BOM.

Resolution

Following can be checked to ensure smooth commissioning process:

• Validate the current SDDC version.
• Validate the ESXi version as per the BOM - VCF BOM version
• Validate if the ESXi version in the SDDC manager is on an async patch (4.x) or flex BOM versions (for 5.2.x and later). 
• Image the hosts as per the version based on the above evaluation.
