Issue/Introduction

  • Commission of the hosts fails during validation with error 'A problem has occurred on the server. Please retry or contact the service provider and provide the reference token'

/var/log/vmware/vcf/operationmanager/operationmanager.log:

[yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss] ERROR [vcf_om, 688c409fb4d82d65b16d5448d9692c96, 10da] [c.v.v.h.f.v.s. i. VCFSupportedESXiVersionValidator, host-comm-decomm-exec-1] esxhost.domain.local: Host ESXi version -
[8.0.3-24280767] is not supported. VCF supported ESXi versions - [8.0.3-24784735]

  • Example : Host ESXi version - [version A] is not supported. VCF supported ESXi versions -[version X, version Y]

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 4.x, 5.x, 9.0.x
  • SDDC Manager
  • ESXi 8.x, 9.0.x

Cause

The SDDC Manager identifies compatibility by cross-referencing the ESXi host build version against the VCF BOM. The commissioning process enforces strict version control to ensure the integrity and interoperability of the environment. Mismatches detected during validation trigger a task failure, requiring the host build to be aligned with the BOM.

Resolution

Following can be checked to ensure smooth commissioning process

  • Validate  the current SDDC version .
  • Validate the ESXi version as per BOM - VCF BOM version
  • Validate if the ESXi version in the SDDCs manager is on async patched(4.x) or flex BOM versions (for 5.2.x and later).
  • Image the hosts as per the version based the above evaluation.

Note:  In case of custom image reach out to vendor for specific image with respective build number .
