Issue/Introduction

  • After migration of Edge Nodes, virtual machines in the NSX-V environment lose north/south connectivity

  • There is no ARP resolution for gateway IP.

  • In the support log bundle of the ESX host, commands/dump--vxlan-info.py.txt or from the command in a ssh terminal session "net-vdl2 -S -s <VDS-name>", you can see tx.drop.guestTag is greater than 0 and possibly increasing

    net-vdl2 -S -s <VDS-name>
    tx.passThrough: 0
    tx.vxlanTotal: 0
    tx.clone: 0
    tx.tso: 0
    tx.csum: 0
    tx.floodRateLimit: 0
    tx.drop.invalidFrame: 0
    tx.drop.guestTag: 73941

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center 4.x
VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.x
VMware NSX-T
VMware NSX
VMware NSX-V 6.x

Cause

NSX-V does not support running another Transport Node (NSX-T Edge) inside it running VXLAN on the same transport VLAN

Resolution

Ensure that NSXT Edge VTEP VLAN is different from ESXi VTEP VLAN on which it is hosted
