Issue/Introduction

Received an error "Unable to establish a valid connection to the target system. Undefined " while validating the test connection against vCenter using custom certificate.

It does not ask to accept the certificate and directly gives the error message.

In the /storage/log/vcops/log/collector.log we could see below error:

2024-08-27T14:23:29,663+0000 ERROR [Collector worker thread 5] (12513) com.integrien.adapter.vmware.VMwareAdapter.initializeVimClient - Unable to connect to VC https://<vCenter IP Address>/sdk

com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.exception.SslException: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

This can happen if Aria Operations is upgraded and the new certificate is not imported.

Resolution

Custom certificate needs to be imported in Aria Operations first before validating the connection.

Additional Information

This issue may occur when a custom certificate is being used by vCenter and has expired. When renewed the certificate in vCenter, We need to validate the connection in Aria Operations also to renew the certificate here.
