Issue/Introduction

The non-default alarms are not getting triggered after manual configuration in vCenter server

Example :

1. When any user  "Power off the VM", the alarm should trigger

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Cause

When creating an alarm, Creating proper target is required for the Alarm to trigger.

Alarm Definition "VM Power On " shows that the Target is specified as vCenter server as shown below

Select vCenter -> Configure -> Alarm Definitions

Resolution

Ensure the Target type is set properly in the alarm. Choose the Target type based on the alarm action required to be monitored.

Alarm Definition needs to be specific with "Target Type". For the above example of VM Power off, the target type should be virtual machines on vCenter server which to be monitored

Once the Alarm Targets should list all the objects required to be monitored.
