Issue/Introduction

  • In the vCloud Director (vCD) UI, an issue occurs where VM events load and then disappear.
  • While navigating to the Monitor -> Events screen in VCD, in the events for VMs in the tenant portal, incomplete data is seen as the event list flickers.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x

Cause

The flickering is caused by two API calls made in quick succession:

  1. First API Call: Lacks the event Id filter, resulting in the retrieval of events for all VMs.
  2. Second API Call: Correctly includes the event Id filter, retrieving the accurate events for the specific VM.

The UI momentarily displays data from the first API call, leading users to believe that many events exist, when in fact, the data pertains to all VMs. Once the second call completes, the correct data replaces the incorrect data, resulting in flickering.

Resolution

This is a known issue and will be resolved in VCD version 10.6.1

Workaround:

  • Refresh the UI after navigating to the Events screen.

Additional Information

Due to flickering it appears that datagrid is not loading the correct events, but it loads the correct events for default last 3 days.
