Issue/Introduction

The following error message appears when attempting to display Hardware Health in the vSphere Client.

A general system error occurred: Retrieve IPMI SEL request to host failed.

Cause

After the vpxd service is restarted, vCenter attempts to retrieve the SEL using an inappropriate API call until a full host sync occurs.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in vCenter 8.0U3 and later.

The workaround is to disconnect and reconnect the ESXi host.

  1. Right click ESXi host.
  2. Click [Connection] > [Disconnect]
  3. Right click ESXi host again.
  4. Click [Connection] > [Connect]
