Procedure to remediate VMSA-2024-0019 (vCenter Server 8.0 U3b) for VCF 5.0.x, 5.1.x environments using Flexible BOM.

Issue/Introduction

To apply the vCenter Server 8.0U3b patch the SDDC Manager must be upgraded to 5.2.0. Please follow the steps in the below resolution section.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.0

Cause

vCenter 8.0U3b is only interoperable with SDDC Manager 5.2.0.0 

Resolution

Follow below steps to upgrade SDDC Manager to 5.2.0.0 and vCenter Server to 8.0U3b:

Step 1: Download SDDC Manager 5.2.0.0 & SDDC Manager 5.2.0.0 Config Drift bundles

• For online customers follow Link to download only SDDC Manager 5.2.0.0 & SDDC Manager 5.2.0.0 Config Drift bundles for planning upgrade to 5.2.0.0
• For offline customers follow Link to download all of the required 5.2 bundles.

Step 2: Plan Upgrade to VCF 5.2.0.0

• Follow the steps in Link to plan the VCF 5.2.0.0 upgrade 

Step 3: Apply SDDC Manager 5.2.0.0 upgrade

• Upgrade SDDC manager to 5.2.0.0 - refer Link, Do not upgrade any other BOM components

Step 4: Cancel Upgrade plan for 5.2.0.0 after applying SDDC Manager 5.2.0.0

• In the navigation pane, click Inventory > Workload Domains.
• On the Workload Domains page, click the domain you are patching and then click the Updates tab.
• Under Available Updates section of the Updates tab , click  ACTIONS > Cancel Upgrade Plan > Confirm Cancel Upgrade Plan 

Step 5: Download required patch bundle

• For online customers follow Link and find the patch bundle on Bundle Management screen by searching for "vCenter Server 8.0 Update 3b"
• For offline customers follow Link to download the vCenter 8.0U3b bundle (Patch bundle-131838)

Step 6: 'Plan Patching' for the required patch

• Follow the procedure section of the Link to apply the patch "vCenter server 8.0 Update 3b build number: 8.0.3.00200-24262322"
