Issue/Introduction

  • VMware NSX 4.1.2.1 or 4.2 is deployed.
  • updateEventInstances are logged frequently in the NSX Manager logs.
  • There is no associated impact with the observed events.
  • Logs similar to the below are observed in var/log/proton/nsxapi.log

WARN EventSource-1-7 EventSource 4837 MONITORING [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-manager" level="WARNING" subcomp="manager"] Ignore the updateEventInstances call for cluster_event=true alarm: featureName: infrastructure_service, eventTypeId: 25, since current node is not the leader.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.x

Cause

When a vCenter / compute manager goes down, all the NSX Manager nodes attempt to raise alarms via updateEventInstances.

The alarm framework ignores the alarm requests from the non-leader NSX Manager nodes but the frequent event updates result in several logs being generated.

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VMware NSX.

Currently there is no workaround to this issue, these additional logs are harmless and can be safely ignored.
