Resolution

Steps to Resolve VMware Aria Operations Upgrade Issues:

To resolve issues encountered during an upgrade attempt, follow the steps below. This process involves reverting to snapshots taken prior to the upgrade, updating specific configuration values, and re-applying the upgrade.

1. Revert to Pre-Upgrade Snapshots: As a best practice, it is highly recommended to take snapshots before making any changes, as outlined in the Knowledge Base. Revert to the snapshots taken prior to the upgrade attempt to restore the system to its previous state.

2. Log into vCenter: Open the vCenter UI and log in with Administrator credentials.

3. Shut Down the Affected VMware Aria Operations VM

a. Right-click the affected VMware Aria Operations virtual machine.
b. Select Power and then Shut Down Guest OS to safely power off the VM.

4. Update Configuration Settings for vApp

a. Once the VM is powered off, select the affected VMware Aria Operations VM.
b. Navigate to the Configure tab and select the vApp Options section.
c. Locate the entry for vami.gateway.vRealize_Operations_Manager_Appliance.
d. Select this entry and scroll to the top of the page.
e. Click SET VALUE and update the entry to the correct value as per the configuration requirements.

5. Repeat for All Cluster Nodes: Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all nodes in the cluster to ensure that the configuration is consistent across the environment.

6. Bring the Cluster Back Online: After the necessary changes have been made to all nodes, bring the cluster back online to restore its operational state.

7. Reapply the Upgrade: Once the cluster is online, attempt to reapply the upgrade pak file. Verify that the upgrade completes successfully.
