Issue/Introduction
This article provides guidance on migrating VMkernel networking from a vSphere Distributed Switch to a Virtual Standard Switch.
Environment
vSphere ESXi.
vCenter Server.
Resolution
Follow the below steps:
- Login to the vCenter Server.
- Select the ESXi host and click networking -> Virtual Switches.
- Validate the number of uplinks present in the distributed switch, should have minimum two uplinks to regain connectivity when next step is performed.
- Create a Virtual Standard Switch if not present and assign at least one physical adapter before migration to avoid connectivity loss.
- Click on the three dots next to Standard Switch.
- Choose "Migrate VMkernel Networking".
- On the wizard, select the VMkernel adapter required to migrate.
- On the configure tab, enter the network label and assign the appropriate VLAN ID.
- On the final stage , review the settings and click "Finish" to complete the migration.
