Issue/Introduction

This article provides troubleshooting guidance for scenarios where Identity Manager pages unexpectedly display in Chinese (zh_CN), even when the "Enable Language Switching" setting is disabled in the management console.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

Language display issues in a web application are typically driven by the client-side environment rather than the server-side configuration. The following factors often trigger unexpected locale changes:

  • Browser Locale Settings: The browser's preferred language configuration (Accept-Language header) is prioritized over application settings.
  • Operating System Defaults: Client OS language packs or regional settings.
  • Network/Proxy Configuration: Web proxies or organizational network policies injecting locale headers.

Resolution

  1. Verify Browser Locale: Instruct the affected user to check their browser's language preferences. Ensure the desired language is set as the primary (top) option in the browser settings.
  2. Inspect HTTP Headers: Capture a browser network trace (HAR file or browser developer tools) to examine the Accept-Language header sent to the Identity Manager server. Verify if the header is injecting the unexpected locale.
  3. Review OS Regional Settings: Confirm if the client's operating system has regional settings or language packs configured that conflict with the application's default locale.
  4. Test in Alternative Environment: Attempt to access the Identity Manager URL from a different machine or a network outside the corporate VPN to determine if the issue is machine-specific or network-specific.
  5. Evaluate Proxy/Policy Settings: If the issue is persistent across browsers on the affected machine, consult with the internal IT department to check if proxy servers or group policies are modifying browser request headers.
