Permission required to perform a cross-vCenter vMotion for non-admin user on destination vCenter server.

Issue/Introduction

In case the user which logs into the vCenter server is not a admin user  the following permission are required to perform the cross vCenter server vMotion. 

We perform a cross vCenter server vMotion either within ELM vCenter's or not a part of the SSO domain we need following privileges.

Thus article talks about Advance cross vCenter vMotion and cross vMotion within same single sign on domains. 

 

Resolution

• Required privilege: Resource.Query vMotion
• When you migrate powered on virtual machines, verify that you meet the following requirements.
  • Required privilege: Resource.Migrate powered on virtual machine
  • Verify that your hosts and virtual machines meet the requirements for migration with vMotion. See Host Configuration for vMotion and Virtual Machine Conditions and Limitations for vMotion.
  • Verify that your hosts and virtual machines meet the requirements for live migration. See Requirements and Limitations for vMotion Without Shared Storage.
• When you migrate powered off virtual machines, verify that you meet the following requirements.
  • Required privilege: Resource.Migrate powered off virtual machine
  • Additionally the following  permission is required to for a non-admin user.
