Issue/Introduction

This article discusses the issue of an unusually high pNIC error rate that is surpassing the expected threshold of 100%.

Example: High pNIC Packet Error Rate is showing up as 800% when this should be no higher than 100%.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.x

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

VMware vSAN 7.x
VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

Usually, the High pNIC error rate value is less than 1%, and if the value is more than 100% then this is due to the erroneous metric in the vSphere UI.

Resolution

The VMware engineering team is currently revisiting the calculation formula for the pNIC error rate. This issue will be addressed in a future vSphere UI release. At present, we do not have an ETA for the fix.
