Issue/Introduction

I am trying to extract SMF data for a specific period, but receiving the following message

CAF2899T  RUN ABENDED SYSTEM=813, IN  SMFIPGMM+000946 

SMFD abends with a U1000

Resolution

Suspect tape has been scratched; typically this is what we would see if the EXTRACT time range (FROM and TO) are looking for a tape that's been scratched due to the data being past it's expiration date. 

Check the RETPD on the configuration in question, and see what the value is.  If it's 60 days or less, then the data is gone.

The entry in the SCDS for the dataset will be there for a day or two beyond expiration, but the tape management system will scratch the data set once it's expired.  
If the tape has been scratched, you will have to chose another date.   

You can run a LISTC to verify the RETPD.
