Issue/Introduction

Publisher content library was deleted accidentally and we need to get the files after running sync from subscriber library

Environment

vCenter server 7.x

vCenter server 8.x

Cause

Subscription link is deleted along with the publisher deletion, hence if we create new publisher it will have a new publishing link which has to be updated on each of the subscriber.

Resolution

1. When publisher gets deleted or removed, we cannot use the old link to run a sync from subscriber.

2. Create a new publisher and point rest of the subscriber to this publisher using new subscription link.

3. When you run a sync from subscriber, the contents which new to subscriber will be published to the subscriber and old contents will not be deleted from the subscriber library.

The use of subscriptions allows content distribution between a publisher and a subscriber in the following scenarios.

  • The publisher and subscriber are in the same vCenter Server instance.
  • The publisher and subscriber are in vCenter Server instances that are in Enhanced Linked Mode.
  • The publisher and subscriber are in vCenter Server instances that are in Hybrid Linked Mode. For more information about Hybrid Linked Mode, see the VMware Cloud on AWS documentation.

Note: Publishing content is possible only from an on-premises publisher to a cloud subscriber, and not in the reverse scenario.
