Issue/Introduction

/var/log/hostd.log in esxi 8.0 shows a large number of "scoreboard is not readable" error spew. 

Environment

esxi 8.0

Cause

Can sometimes happen if the VM display name was renamed

Resolution

Reset the scoreboard card

 

  1. Edit VM settings
  2. add advanced value named vmx.scoreboard.enabled and set it to a value of false
  3. power off vm and delete the old scoreboard card
  4. Set the value vmx.scoreboard.enabled to a value of true
  5. Power on vm the vm and a new scoreboard card will be created and the errors will stop
