Issue/Introduction

Introduction:

When working with your CA Technologies support engineer to resolve a problem, it is sometimes necessary to provide files to the engineer so that they can diagnose the problem. While most files can be easily attached to the support case through the CA Support Online web interface, or through attachments to email reply messages, there are some files that are too large or that have a specific formatting and cannot be transferred through the normal means.

To help in these cases, we have provided a JCL member that you can use which will run the IBM AMATERSE program to create a compressed file, which is then transferred to us using the IBM FTP program.

Environment:

This article applies to all customers using z/OS at releases prior to 2.1 and who also use DFSORT.

Instructions:

Please download and modify the attached JCL file for your use. All necessary details are noted in the instructions at the top, and there should be no reason to modify the JCL code other than the SET statements.

Here's the JCL file: ftpcust-1.13.txt

Additional Information:

For customers using a z/OS version 2.1 and later, please refer to Knowledge Base article TEC264397, titled “How to compress and transmit large files to CA Technologies support teams (z/OS 2.1 and later)”.

As always, please contact CA Technologies support for CA Datacom if you have further questions.
