VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • Navigating to Monitor >> Interoperability in the vCenter user interface, the following warning banner is displayed:

"Before upgrading, check the compatibility of 3rd party products that are registered with vCenter Server."

  • This is unexpected as the installed version of Aria Operations has been confirmed as interoperable with vCenter using Product Interoperability Matrix

  • When checking the extension manager in the vCenter mob - there are three entries: com.vmware.vrops , com.vmware.vcops and com.vmware.vrops.install.  The entries com.vmware.vrops and com.vmware.vcops show the correct version but the extension com.vmware.vrops.install shows 1.0

Environment

vCenter Server 7.x and later

Aria Operations 8.12 and later

Resolution

The recommendation is to:

  1. Upgrade vCenter as normal, ignoring the warning. This will remove the entry com.vmware.vrops.install.
  2. After the vCenter upgrade completes, re-register plugin using How to Integrate Aria operation plugin with vCenter using Aria operations UI
