Issue/Introduction

  • You receive warning that the license is not valid after a successful upgrade of Aria Operations for Logs.
  • You are not using a valid Operations for Logs license. Obtain an evaluation or permanent license from the product download page

Environment

Aria Operations for Logs 8.x

Cause

  • The license has become corrupt during the upgrade process.
  • The license will appear as a Base64 encoded string as per screenshot below

Resolution

  • Browse directly to each node in the cluster and verify the license is valid.
    • A valid license looks similar to #####-#####-#####-#####
  • Click the X to remove the the license if it is displaying as invalid.
  • Copy the valid license key from one of the other nodes or from your Broadcom account portal if all the nodes have invalid license error.
  • Add the valid license.

The issue has been fixed in Aria operations for Logs 8.18.1. The issue may still occur during upgrade to 8.18.1, as the fix only takes effect after completed upgrade. Upgrading to 8.18.1 does not fix the issue, if already present in the environment.

Additional Information

The impact of the licensing corruption trigger clusters and/or unstable environment where cluster nodes and queries cannot be made or nodes not replicating most of the time.  All configured alarms stopped working. Alerts do not send notifications.

runtime.log may show “Invalid or expired license” java exception.
