Spectrum install failure on Windows for usermodfiles.exe

Issue/Introduction

When running the GUI installer on Windows it fails to start the postinstallation phase and fails.  There are no logs or indication as to what the failure is caused by.

Launch Windows Event Viewer and under the Applications see if there is an Error:

Faulting Application name: usermodfiles.exe

Exception code:0xc0000005

 

Cause

The install owner is not the same as the previous install.

Resolution

During the installation there is a window that requests an install owner. On a new install you can specify any local Administrator.  On an upgrade of Spectrum you MUST use the same user that was used to run the previous install.

For instance, if you installed Spectrum 22.2.x as user specadm and then you are upgrading to 23.3.x you MUST use "specadm" again.  If you use any other user, such as "spectrum" the install will fail.
