Environment

vSphere 7.x, 8.x

Resolution

Steps to Change name of an existing vSAN Witness Node Appliance on a two Node ROBO Cluster

  1. Make sure vSAN Skyline Health has no issues.
  2. Disable vSAN stretched cluster

From vSphere Client, navigate to vSAN > Cluster Settings > General.
Select Edit and disable the stretched cluster feature. This action will effectively dissolve the stretched cluster and convert the sites back into independent clusters

  3. Remove the witness appliance from the vcenter inventory.
  4. Rename the witness host appliance as required.
  5. Add the vSAN witness node back to vcenter inventory.
  6. Enable vSAN stretched cluster and add the witness node back to the vSAN cluster
  7. Re-run vSAN Skyline Health check and make sure there are no issues.

Note: As a best Practice make sure you have backup of the virtual machine before doing the changes
