Issue/Introduction

This article discusses why we're collecting serial numbers.

As we transition into Broadcom's systems, we will begin collecting serial numbers for all Tanzu products used in each Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry foundation. This allows us to more accurately measure consumption. 

The serial number approach allows our customers who have multiple business entities using Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry to designate a foundation's consumption toward the appropriate contract to better track each entity's usage. 

For customers who are still using their legacy VMware SKUs and entitlements, a unique serial number for each product used in a foundation should be entered into Ops Manager. 

For customers who have renewed into the Tanzu Platform single SKU, the unique serial number for that SKU should be entered into Ops Manger. 

 

Resolution

Serial numbers in Ops Man is currently an optional field. In the future, it will be required. The ability to add serial numbers using Concourse's Platform Automation will be coming soon.
