VMware vCenter Server 7.0

Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter server upgrade wizard is stuck on stage 1 at 80%
  • In a few cases it might go to 81% and stuck for hours on deploying storage for the VM.
  • The new vCenter Server VM gets created, however, the upgrade gets stuck at about 80% during stage 1.
  • C:\Users\ADMINI-1\AppData\Local\Temp\vcsaUiInstaller log events shows below events:

Environment

vCenter Server 7.0

vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

VM was getting deployed on host however, DRS was moving the VM from one host to another as soon as it gets created and powered on.

Resolution

Proceed with the below steps to resolve the issue:

1. Cancel the upgrade if it is stuck and giving error.

2. Set the DRS to manual mode on the cluster where vCenter VM is getting deployed.

3. Reinitiate the upgrade from stage 1.
