VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to vCenter 8.0.3 some environments may experience vpxd continually crashing and core.vpxd-worker.******* files being created in /var/core.

Environment

vSphere vCenter Server 8.0.3

Cause

In vSphere vCenter Server 8.0.3 builds before 8.0 U3e, if vCenter server database has a NULL value for datastore mount path, then third party monitoring tools attempting to monitor and query vCenter for stats information will cause the crash to occur.

In vpxd logs can see the stats query:

YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS:MsecZ info vpxd[282587] [Originator@6876 sub=vpxLro opID=6cdb2XXX] [VpxLRO] -- BEGIN lro-24332 -- PerfMgr -- vim.PerformanceManager.queryStats -- ********-****-****-****-*********

Resolution

This issue is fixed in vCenter Server 8.0 U3e (P05 - 24674346)

VMware vCenter Server 8.0 Update 3e Release Notes

As a workaround, disable the third party monitoring tool that's querying the vCenter.
