Displays insufficient privileges error when adding the vCenter server as a data source in Aria Operations for Networks.

Issue/Introduction

Adding the vCenter server as a data source in the Aria Operations for Networks fails and displays the insufficient privileges error as shown in the below screenshot.





Environment

VMware vRealize Network Insight 6.9.0
Aria Operations for Networks 6.10
Aria Operations for Networks 6.11
Aria Operations for Networks 6.12
Aria Operations for Networks 6.12.1
Aria Operations for Networks 6.13.0

Cause

The vCenter server user does not have the required privileges to add the vCenter server in the Aria Operations for Networks.

Resolution

The vRealize Network Insight/Aria Operation for Networks requires vCenter server user must have the following privileges as shown in the below screenshot. 

  • Distributed Switch: Modify
  • dvPort group: Modify
  • Global > Settings

 

To configure and use IPFIX, vCenter user must have following  privileges along with the above:

  • Distributed switch: Modify and Port configuration operation
  • dvPort group: Modify and Policy operation


 

     

    Note: Ensure that the vCenter Server user has the required permission on the vCenter Server root folder and all of its child entities, including all folders and data centers.

    Additional Information

    The latest.log on the collector can be reviewed to identify the exact privilege that is missing.
