VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading VCSA to 8.0 U2 it may function normal for weeks and then start randomly experiencing vpxd service crashes throughout the day.

  • Manually starting vpxd service succeeds and runs, and then seems to randomly crash again.
  • Can be experienced during multiple Storage DRS tasks started (e.g., when new Datastores added to SDRS cluster, etc.).

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0 U2

VCF 5.1.x

Cause

When vCenter tries to manage datastore files, authorization fails or shows as anonymous.

Resolution

Upgrade VCSA to 8.0 U3, as this includes the fix. There is no workaround for the issue.

If running VCF 5.1.x it is recommended to upgrade VCF to at least 5.2 and then upgrade VCSA to latest 8.0 U3 build.
