Issue/Introduction

Login to ESXi Host UI using AD Accounts fails with error message "Permission to perform this operation was denied".

Host Client Login Error:

Cause

This error is observed when appropriate permissions are not assigned for the user trying to login to the host.

Resolution

NOTE: Before following below mentioned steps, please validate that the AD/Local user credentials entered are correct.

Assign the permissions by following below steps :

  1. Login to ESXi Host Client using "root" account credentials.
  2. Navigate to Actions -> Permissions




  3. Click on Add user



  4. Select the User/Group from the drop down OR manually type the user name eg. "EXAMPLE\user"



  5. In the "Assigned Role" drop-down list, select the role to be assigned to the user (e.g., Administrator, Read-Only) and Click on "Add user"

    Note: Select the check box "Add as group" if permission is added for a group.



  6. Retry UI login with the AD/Local user Account.
