Issue/Introduction

After patching the ESXi host to 8.0 U2c, the PSOD was observed with the following backtrace.

Information:   Panic Details: Crash at YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ on CPU x running world 209xxx. VMK Uptime:7:16:10:56.184

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0U2

Cause

Based on the memory dump log, when the CD-ROM device is connected to the AHCI controller, a storm from the AHCI driver caused the thread to hang, resulting in a PSOD issue on the ESXi host.

Resolution

Please contact the host hardware vendor to verify the health of the media and drivers.
