Log location /var/log disk space usage is at 100% on the Appliance

Issue/Introduction

The Log location disk space usage for /var/log is at 100% on the Appliance where we see maximum file size with  "messages" and "messages-kv.log" 

Environment

Aria Automatiion 8.x 

Cause

There was an additional software package "syslog-ng " installed in the appliance as a prerequisite for configuring monitoring application like Splunk in the environment. 

Resolution

The root cause of why the file size "messages" and the "messages-kv.log"  has grown to an extend and as a result of which the /var/log is full at 100% space used  is because there was an additional software package "syslog-ng " which got installed by the admin on the Aria Automation appliance. By default the software package "syslog-ng " doesn't go preinstalled/preconfigured  out of the Box with Aria Automation however admininstrator can install runing the command " tdnf install syslog-ng " which VMware By Broadcom do not recommend. 

 

VMware By Broadcom do not encourage installing any custom or additonal software packages to any of the product appliances including Aria Automation.
